August 10, 2018 - Tonight I went on a night sky outing with our local photography club to photograph the Milky Way at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park in Dawson Springs, Ky. Due to the electric company not turning off the security lights as we requested (they usually do) we ended up moving a friends farm that has an observatory where I was able to capture this shot through his telescope of the M8 Lagoon Nebula!

The Lagoon Nebula, or Messier 8 (M8), is a large interstellar cloud classified as an emission nebula. The nebula is located in Sagittarius constellation, within the Milky Way Galaxy. It lies in the direction of the galaxy's center.

The scope used was a 4” f-5. Its focal length is 510mm, on my full frame Nikon D800. ISO 800 with an exposure of 3 minutes.
