Purple was my husband's favorite color. These irises first appeared in my garden a few weeks after he passed away, and have been blooming each season for the past two years. This was the first bloom of this year. After a midday rainstorm, I grabbed my camera to capture the water droplets on the flowers.

Location
I took this photo in my yard when I lived in Arkansas not long after I'd purchased my camera.Time
Every spring, this bunch of irises would bloom at the corner of our carport right around Easter. My husband particularly loved them because purple was his favorite color. He passed in March of 2016, and that year the irises did not come up. In 2017, the flowers reappeared and flourished well into the summer. One day, the kids and I came home just after a rainstorm, and I saw how the water droplets seemed to sparkle on the petals and leaves. I ran into the house and grabbed my camera to snap a few shots.Lighting
I didn't do anything special regarding lighting. The sky was bright, but still overcast. Because the flowers sat right at the edge of the carport, I stood under the overhang in order to prevent catching any shadow or casting any shadow over the flowers.Equipment
I shot this with a Canon EOS Rebel T6, EFS 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
I was simply inspired by the flowers themselves. Call it being in the right time at the right place, nothing more.Editing
Other than cropping the shot, so that this bloom was the only flower, I did no other post.In my camera bag
To be perfectly honest, my Rebel and the lens which came with it are the only weapons in my current arsenal. I'm not a professional, and have been largely limited by finances from adding to my equipment stores at present. However, I've always preferred a pared down bag, even in my pre-digital days. I only ever got a 300mm back then because of the work I was doing for a school organization, which required shooting from a distance.Feedback
First and foremost, always be ready for anything. You never know when the right combination of circumstances will lead you to the perfect snap. Spend time out even when the conditions are not perfect and simply see what you can come upon. What may look trivial or uninspired at first glance might actually turn out to be a beautiful picture!
