Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. My wife and I were on vacation and were were walking by the resort and saw the curtain blowing.

Time

This photograph was taken at 2:30 in the afternoon. It was hard to tell the shape of the blowing curtain, so I took several images. This one was what I was looking for.

Lighting

The lighting on the building made the white curtain stand out. The lighting was just right, and I lucked out seeing it as we walked by.

Equipment

I was traveling very light, as we were on vacation. I had a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. I didn’t expect to see anything this interesting.

Inspiration

When I saw the curtain blowing in the wind, I was able to see, in my mind, what the final image would look like.

Editing

I did very little post processing of this image. Just a bit of sharpening in Photoshop. Also, just minor adjusting of the whites and blacks.

In my camera bag

Since my wife and I were on vacation, I was traveling very light and just had the one camera, a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. My camera bag usually includes: Fuji X-T2 (converted to full spectrum) for photographing infrared Fuji X-T3 Fuji 14mm Lens Fuji 18-135mm Lens Fuji 60mm Macro Lens Fuji 100-400mm Lens Fuji 1.4X tele-converter Numerous filters Extra SD Cards

Feedback

Always be prepared for the unexpected. As we were walking by the resort, we both saw the curtain blowing in the wind. It is a good idea to have a small camera with you for unexpected moments, when you see something you want to photograph. With the curtain blowing, it was hard to tell exactly how the image would look. I took several images to be sure I captured one that I liked the look of. One of the images captured what I was looking for.
