Ya about last night... Let's just say that it was biblically epic! That being said I am pretty sure there was a lot of judgment being passed down as there was at least 500 lightning strikes I saw in the couple hours I was out chasing the night. Fortunately it was not my time yet and I am still here to post, for another day anyway.

Location
This was taken Just North of Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. This is a historic old church that is very well known to everyone in the area.Time
Chasing storms has to be right up there with chasing the Aurora for me. And to grab that epic lightning shot its always best at night, so it's not really a surprise that I am up well past midnight chasing down awesome moments! This was snapped at aprox 12:30 AM.Lighting
Capturing lightning is challenging, but incredibly rewarding! One major mind shift people need to understand is this: If it is night time use a LONG shutter speed, or a remote trigger, in the neighbourhood of 30 seconds to 1 min. Any lighting that flashes will be captured and the foreground should also be exposed correctly too! No need to have "lightning" reflexes and hope to snap a shot as fast as a lightning strike.Equipment
I took this a few years back before I got the Nikon D850, so it was on my Nikon D600 with a 24-85 Nikon lens.Inspiration
Well I have always wanted to capture this exact photo and had tried many times to get a storm that flowed the right direction. I mean who wouldn't want to capture an epic old build with some epic lightning right!?Editing
Yes I used lightroom to process this image as I do shoot in RAW and have my settings quite flat. When editing lighting I don't want the jagged trails to be over exposed so I always pull the highlights back globally and then brush in some exposure where it is needed. In my camera bag
Typically I have a few lenses and little gadgets I picked up along the way, but I would say the most used items would have to be my NiSi filters, I typically will use those on ALL my shots in the day!Feedback
Like I said use a long exposure vs a short one, it will save you hours of frustration!
