Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in Biloxi, Mississippi where the shrimp boats dock.

Time

Me and two friends were on our way to Florida for vacation. They had never been to this area and wanted to look around. The sun was ducking behind the clouds and it was evening after 4 pm. They wanted to go to the casino and walk around. It was so nice that I said lets go check out the area. When we did we found a ton of shrimp boats that had docked because of the impending storm off coast. As we got closer we found someone on one of the boats. We were talking to him and I just stared off the coast. I was so taken by the clouds and the shading. It looked just like a painting. All of a sudden a huge shrimp boat appeared as it was coming in to dock. I noticed that all the colors from the boat and the sky became one. I quickly began to take pictures. This was one of those moments I will never forget captured. I have this picture on my wall and smile. I will never forget the smell of salt water and sea mixed with the smell of incoming rain. All the elements combined made this picture.

Lighting

Mother nature did all of it. I take no credit other than waiting for the ship to come perfect into frame. There were other pictures with the clouds more white and it made the it too bright. I waited for the clouds to get darker so that it would create shading as it would in an actual painting.

Equipment

I used an Iphone 7 to be quite honest. Was taken but that is what I had at the moment and it came out amazing.

Inspiration

I love the water, ocean and sea. I love to create art with emotion. Something you can look at and actual feel moved. If you look at this you can feel the rain clouds move in and the change in the air. You can smell the salt water mixed with incoming rain. It brings you right in the picture as if you were actually standing there. That is why this is in my living room. It is exactly everything I love. Rain, shading colors, blues, greys, boats, water, the sky and how Mother Nature paints it each day. It is magic in one instant that you can create.

Editing

None, this is exactly as it was the second I took it.

In my camera bag

I always have my IPhone 7 with me and I have a Nikon small camera. One day I wish to have an actual larger professional camera. This was a childhood dream and one day hopefully I will finally have it.

Feedback

Go with your gut. Create art that moves you in some way. Art is about the magic of the second in time. What are you trying to say? How are you trying to have someone feel? Art is about emotion or trying to bring someone in the story you are trying to tell. Expand and try new things. Find your passion and then have fun. Mother Nature paints so many pictures each day in everything around us. Use it to create magic.
