Behind The Lens

Location

This is one of the most popular photography spots in Colorado! The Maroon Bells with Maroon Lake is beautiful in the Fall. If you stay in Aspen, CO it is only 20 minutes from town. So many people go here that you usually need to park and take a bus shuttle to the site.

Time

This is looking west to the Maroon Bells mountains, so it is best to arrive early in the morning for the best shots.

Lighting

Lighting in the early morning is best. In my photo, I wish the sky would have been darker. I don't use photoshop so you see what you get.

Equipment

I shoot with a Sony HX80 or my Samsung Note 9. This was taken with my Samsung.

Inspiration

We had been to this beautiful spot before during the day and wanted to see it early in the morning for better light.

Editing

Not a lot of post processing. I just tweak my photos with basic processing.

In my camera bag

I choose to not carry a bag of equipment. I like my pocket equipment. It doesn't make me a professional but I'm okay with that. It's about the outcome, not the equipment. jmho

Feedback

Spend a few nights in Aspen and enjoy the fall weather & events. We usually stay at the St Moritz Hotel on the west edge of Aspen. It is within walking distance to the village of Aspen and the ski slopes. The more nights you stay, the better chance you have of an early morning photo at Maroon Bells.
