Thanks for your kind words. I just wish I had the proper lens with me on that trip...maybe would have been a lot less grainy.

FYI :
The lens you use has nothing to do with the amount of grain in an exposure.
The quality of the lens determines sharpness and how much light falls on the sensor through F stops, not grain.
To reduce the amount of grain (in general and ) during long exposures, reduce your ISO setting to 1600 or below. ( I use ISO 800 for night exposures) This requires a longer exposure time.
To help compensate for the noise created in the longer exposure, enable the camera's Long Exposure Noise Reduction setting. . The controls should have on/off, and /or, high/low settings.
The combination of a lower ISO and the noise reduction feature, should significantly reduce the amount of grain / noise in your image

It's still a gorgeous shot, despite the noise.
Your lens, with an aperture of 2.8, lets plenty of light in, and will work just fine.
