Ranger loves to run!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my back yard in Colorado. Ranger stays really well and I would tell him to stay on the other side of the yard until I was situated and say "come on!" and he would come running.

Time

I believe this shot was taken early afternoon. We were playing with our dog Ranger in the back yard.

Lighting

It was an overcast day so there was no harsh shadows, the sky was like a giant softbox.

Equipment

I took this image with a Nikon D750 and Nikon 24-120 f4 lens using predictive focus with 3d tracking. No lights of any kind were used, just natural lighting. I was laying on the ground propped up on my elbows to be on Ranger's level.

Inspiration

We love Shelties. We actually are always taking pictures and video of our Sheltie. He is a natural model and puts up with so much!

Editing

Basic lightroom post processing. Added some contrast, a little clarity and just a bump of sharpening. Also maybe just a little bump in vibrance.

In my camera bag

I mostly shoot with a Nikon D750 along with a variety of lenses, some prime, some telephoto. I also at times carry my crop sensor D5100.

Feedback

With moving subjects you need to pay close attention to the focus mode that you are using. In this case I was shooting at 6 frames per second and using predictive focus with 3d tracking. This is the most important if the subject is coming straight towards you.
