Location
The image was taken in Ait Benhaddou, Morocco. Approx. 200km from Ouazzazarte. A world famous filming location for movies such as Lawrence of Arabia or The Gladiator. An almost intact Kasbah built entirely from mud bricks and under UNESCO World Heritage protection.Time
It was on early afternoon.Lighting
I was looking for a specific angle to bring this Berber man’s features and expression to life. The man kindly agreed.Equipment
Canon Rebel 350 with a 55mm lensInspiration
The man had an expression of kindness, yet he was also desperate to make a living with his wife and two daughters by weaving traditional tribal rugs.Editing
This is the B & W version. The only post processing was the conversion, levels, contrast, brightness and curves. In my camera bag
These days I mostly travel with my Canon 5D MK II, a 17-40mm lens, a 100mm macro lens and a few other bits and pieces in my bag. Of course enough battery packs as well as plenty of spare storage is a must.Feedback
When taking pictures of people such as this one, always ask kindly for permission. Most will gladly agree. Sometimes, especially in Morocco it is custom to pay a small token. Both sides are happy. You got the image and you also contributed to some living expenses. Respect is paramount.
