Location
This photo was taken at a place called "Malunat Port" in Mulanay, Quezon Province, Philippines. It was once a bridge, but only the ruins of the old bridge was left.Time
This image was taken mid-day, during a hot summer day in April. It looked like a great photo to create a zen-like fine art image so I went to the platform which has been separated from the bridge itself. It was a very difficult to find a safe path since the way to it was already submerged and was very slippery, and the only other way was to climb a broken wall (which used to be a road) leading to the platform. I took the "easy" way by walking gently through the slippery path and unfortunately, slipped and hit my shin on the bedrock. I bled through the whole ordeal for hours while shooting this long exposure photo, so this is very, very memorable.Lighting
I wanted to get the right point of view with the image I had in mind, and the sun was at it's highest. I had to use a 16 stop ND filter with about 5-7 minute exposure times to get the stillness of the water and the proper exposure of the image. I had to do multiple shots to get the most out of the moment.Equipment
I shot the image with a Sony A7R mk. II with a Sony 24-240 FE Lens, a Manfrotto befree CF Tripod and a Haida 16-Stop ND Filter.Inspiration
Of course, this image is very personal. I associated a lot of my feelings at the time while shooting the scene. I also wanted to emulate some of the people I admire who have become my friends and teachers in my journey in Photography.Editing
Yes, I did! But it was just mostly cleaning the image of dust spots and converting the image to Black and White. I also did some cropping and adjustments on the tones to emulate a zen-like effect on the image. I mostly did it with Lightroom and Photoshop. In my camera bag
Just two to three lenses: 24-240 FE, 16-35 FE and 24-70 FE, Filters such as: Haida 3, 6, 10 stop ND filters, a Tripod, some extra batteries and chargers, a camera and lens cleaning kit,a bluetooth headset for some music.Feedback
Visualize the image you have in mind. It would be great if you could get the weather conditions to go your way (which is possible via a weather app). If you can't try to capture an image closest based on your image in mind. Make sure you take many photos, LE shots as you can until the moment lapses so you have many images to work with during post processing. Take trial shots to know what times the best exposures look like. Take notes and specifics so you can adjust for your next shoot. Most of all, have fun!
