Sea Cliff State Beach in Aptos CA is the home of the remnants of the SS Palo Alto. The cement ship was built as a tanker in World War I. Launched May 29, 1919 too late to participate in the war. In 1929 she was towed to Sea Cliff State Beach and used for amusement. There was a dance floor, swimming pool and café. In 1932 it was damaged during a storm and converted to a fishing pier. Now it is a marine life sanctuary. I used to go with my father in the early 1950's while he fished from this boat. There used to be a bait shop on the pier. 2018-05-10
