Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a small Ford graveyard on the side of Hwy 319 right outside of Medart, FL. I was on my way back from a photo excursion at Mashes Sands Beach in Panacea, FL. Someone else had put that sign up since the last time I went out there to get some pictures of the old rusty trucks. I thought it was pretty funny so I snapped this shot.

Time

It was 2 pm.

Lighting

The lighting was a little tricky for this shot. It was a very sunny day. Hot and humid. There were very big puffy rain clouds rolling in from the northwest. I was in a bit of a rush because I could feel in the air the rain was coming and I didn't have anything to protect my camera from it. I had to wait until the clouds got into position to where there was not too much glare. I love to play with the natural light and nature to get the effect I am looking for.

Equipment

I took this shot on my new Canon Rebel T6 with a Canon EF-S 18-55 mm lens.

Inspiration

Years ago I stopped at this spot with my 5 yo daughter. She was my main subject at the time. While there I captured one of my best photographs to date, in my opinion. Over the years our relationship has been rocky. Just this year on her 12th birthday she sat me down for an intervention. She told me she sees I am unhappy in my life and my work. She said she just wants me to be happy. Photography has always been a way for me to express myself and my vision of the world in a beautiful and peaceful way. She told me to follow my heart and my dream. Now I am currently taking an online business course and studying photography, lighting, and cameras. After hard work, determination, and a very good friend I finally acquired my dream camera, the Canon Rebel T6. I am eager to learn and grow as much as possible in order to pursue and be successful in my dream career, Nature Photography. I stopped at this spot because this was my very first day out with my dream camera that I worked so hard to get and it was all because of the love of my life, Inaura. She has always been my guiding light through the dark times, pushing me to be the best me. I thought it was kind of ironic that sign was there leaning on that truck being that her and I are in the process of moving onto a better chapter in our lives.

Editing

I do not usually do any post processing. I do my adjustments in camera as I shoot.

In my camera bag

First and foremost my Canon Rebel T6 with the standard Canon 18-55 mm zoom lens. At the moment I carry two other lenses as well. A Polaroid Studio Series .43x Wide Angle Macro lens and Polaroid Studio Series 2.2x Telephoto lens. I always have an extra flash on hand and a cloth the clean my lenses. A couple extra batteries plus battery charger is a must as well.

Feedback

Since my love for photography has always been a hobby I am mostly self taught. I personally learn better by hands on practice. I like to go out camera in hand wherever I am. I always find something to take a picture of. Over time I am learning more and more what the different settings can do for me. My greatest advice would be to just realize there is always something else you can learn. There is always something to take a picture of. Talk to people. Get advice. Learn, explore. Viewbug, YouTube, and Pinterest are all good places to go to get tips on anything photography. Get out there and just see what happens...
