Behind The Lens

Location

Photographed this beautiful Gulf Fritillary butterfly at our own butterfly garden in Georgia, USA.

Time

Time of day was early morning at 8:00 am on a bright sunny day.

Lighting

It was a bright sunny day in the summer of 2016. I always try to photograph early morning shots brings out the true colors.

Equipment

Used a Nikon D7000 camera with a 300mm lense no flash or tripod. My lens has a VR setting for vibration control. I recommend using this type of lense.

Inspiration

Love wildlife photography especially butterflies, Always check our garden to capture these beauties

Editing

Photograph using raw format so I can correct lighting or focus and composition if needed. Then convert to jpeg format to be able to upload.

In my camera bag

I use a Nikon D7000 and Nikon D3300. Especially like the D3300 for it's high resolution and light weight. Have all the necessary lenses from wide angle all the way up to a 400mm lens

Feedback

Good place to photograph butterflies could be at a botanical garden or butterfly garden. Check for butterfly and nature conservation areas. Suggest using either a 200mm or 300mm lens for closeup shots. Best time to photograph early morning on a sunny day or flash if cloudy sky.
