It was a bright sunny day in the summer of 2016. I always try to photograph early morning shots brings out the true colors.Equipment
Used a Nikon D7000 camera with a 300mm lense no flash or tripod. My lens has a VR setting for vibration control. I recommend using this type of lense.Inspiration

Good place to photograph butterflies could be at a botanical garden or butterfly garden. Check for butterfly and nature conservation areas. Suggest using either a 200mm or 300mm lens for closeup shots. Best time to photograph early morning on a sunny day or flash if cloudy sky.
