Location
This photo was taken in Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau, Quebec, across the river from Ottawa. This was the first run of this festival and it was tremendously successful bringing in folks from all across the country as part of there trip to the Ottawa/Gatineau region.Time
The photo was taken in the early evening as the sun was setting.Lighting
The light was still quite harsh and casting hard shadows, but some of the exhibits were in area's where you could capture the full sun or shade and that allowed me to set up for the type of light. Some of the exhibits were in both sun and shade making it very contrasty.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D800 with a 24-70 F2.8. No flash or tripod.Inspiration
These were beautiful exhibits that were grown from real plants, an amazing site. They needed to be recorded. Good news is that it was so popular they are going to bring it back this year.Editing
Some minor adjustments in Lightroom were made to the exposure. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D800 and a D500 for bodies with the Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 and the Nikkor 70-200 F2.8. I shot mostly sports/hockey and these lens suit me well. I have the 10-28 Nikkor that I like to use for people and landscape shots, but generally I only carry the 2 all the time. I always keep a SB910 flash in the bag as well, but if I can, I will leave it in the bag as much as possible.Feedback
The best advice I can give to capture this type of image is just to get out and capture all the shots. Try different times of the day, morning and evening produce beautiful light, get out and enjoy, you never know what you will see.
