Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Westin Grand Munich during my stay in the hotel. There were multiple props around the hotel entrance filled with daisies.

Time

I remember this picture was taken roughly about 4 pm. I was about to visit the English Garden when these bunch of daises caught my eye.

Lighting

These flowers were under shade, however, it was a bright and sunny day with clear skies, so perhaps it helped me to get an even lighting on my subject.

Equipment

I used Nikon D7200 my current DSLR with Tokina 100mm F/2.8 Macro lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I have seen similar shots elsewhere especially in magazines, calendars etc. My initial idea was to capture a macro shot of one flower, but it was windy at that time when I was taking pictures. Having one flower in focus and the rest two out of focus was another idea which worked out eventually.

Editing

Yes, as I prefer to use lightroom. Though there were about 10-15 shots taken(bearing in mind that it was windy) with various composition, I worked with the one that was visually appealing. I only reduced the highlights a bit, changed the contrast and brightened up the shadows a bit.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Sigma 10-20mm F/3.5 ultrawide angle lens, irrespective what I am going to shoot. My kit lens also.include Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX lens which is powerhorse for street/landscape photography. Though under-rated, Nikkor AF-P 18-55mm 3.5-5.6VR is another lens I dont fail to carry and finally Tokina 100mm f2.8 Macro lens always finds a place in my bag-be it used for macro photography or portrait.

Feedback

I am self-taught--books and youtube videos. As an amateur, my only advice will be to imagine, practise and keep shooting! The more you take pictures, you get to know your camera and lens very well. Rules are there to be followed, however, let them not make you less creative. Think out of the box and each photograph can be taken with different perspective. Finally, be your own critic.
