Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Essex Young Farmers Show in 2018. I was visiting the Show as a family member is part of the organisation. The subject was part of the Falconry exhibit and the Falconer kindly let me into the exhibiting area to get closer to the birds.

Time

This was taken at about 1:30pm, it was a bright sunny day but as we were in a large pavilion the lighting was slightly subdued.

Lighting

Being I a large pavilion the lighting was slightly subdued, though it was a bright sunny day outside.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 70D and a 70 -300mm Tamron zoom lens, without tripod or flash (as a flash would have startled the bird) the shot was taken from about 3 feet away from the bird.

Inspiration

I have always been a great fan of wildlife especially birds of prey and this was an ideal opportunity to get some great shots of different breeds of birds, the exhibitor had birds ranging from Falcons to Owls. It was a bonus for me when he invited me into the area to get closer.

Editing

The only post processing I did was a slight cropping of the image to centre the bird more in the image.

In my camera bag

I usually carry 2 lenses, a Canon 85 mm & Tamron 70- 300 mm zoom lens, always have spare batteries and memory cards and a Neweer nw550 speedlite flash.

Feedback

Patience is a verture! Whether as with my image the animal is tethered, or in the wild, free move about you need to be patient. Taking multiple shots of the subject will always allow you to pick and choose the images you prefer or gives you the best outcome.
