Behind The Lens

Location

A close friend from Canada met me in Phoenix and we decided to go early the next morning to hike the Peralta trail, as it was going to be a very hot day. We got to the trailhead around 7 am and hiked out the end of the trail. Along the way, a couple of hikers on their way out mentioned the lone pine tree and said we should pay it a visit. We saw the tree which looked really far away, but it was not too far, only a quarter of a mile, so we reached it in very little time. We saw a perfect camp spot under the tree and had our snacks. Before the return hike, we took some photos and this was one of them. Weaver’s Needle is a huge volcanic pillar that looks small from here!

Time

This was about 830am

Lighting

It was a sunny morning but we got some hazy clouds at the last minute. I used a short exposiure time.

Equipment

Sony a7riii, at 25mm with a Sony 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens, Handheld, f/6.3 ISO 400 1/2500 s

Inspiration

I like the framing of the tree and the rock pillar was impressive to see!

Editing

Yes I processed this in Lightroom, making it flatter and brighter and adding some warmth and reds to it.

In my camera bag

Sony a7riii - one or two lenses (one above and Sony 16-35 mm G or 70-300 G) a couple of spare batteries and sd cards, and a lens cloth I never use!

Feedback

This would be a great place to camp overnight and catch a beautiful sunrise or sunset, especially if there are clouds, like in July.
