A beautiful sight in the village where I live, a rainbow appeared over the New Hartley memorial pathway which is a lasting memorial to the 204 men and boys lost their lives back in January 1862 when the pit head collapsed and blocked the entrance, suffocating all inside. Many families in the village lost all the men in their family, the youngest being 10 years old, the oldest 71, with an average age of 27.
