I’m in a weekly loop on Instagram and our challenge one week was “Vintage”. I knew there was a house on the way to my sisters house that has this old truck parked out front. Right away I had the vision in my head. I ran out to OshKosh and bought the outfit and hit every store in town looking for the hat. Who would’ve known it’s a seasonal accessory. I ended up finding an adult women’s hat and we safty pinned it to fit. I drove to the house with the truck and asked them if I could take some photos. They were happy to let me. I’m an aspiring/amateur photographer and doing weekly loops on Instagram helps get me out of my comfort zone.Time
I wanted to take this as close to golden hour as possible. It was a little earlier. I believe around 5:00 pm.Lighting
I only shoot in natural light and I didn’t want the light to be harsh. But I knew my son wouldn’t make it to golden hour. So we shot this in the early evening.Equipment
I shot this in RAW with my Canon T5i with my 50mm 1.8 lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I’m in a weekly loop on Instagram. Every week we push ourselves with different themes or techniques and that week our theme was “Vintage” I find tons of daily inspiration on InstagramEditing
I processed this in Lightroom. I knew I wanted to convert it to black and white. I tend to lean towards darker moody editing. I feel it tells a better story. So I almost always add a lot of contrast and clarity, drop my highlights and increase my shadows. In my camera bag
I’m still an amateur so bag is nothing special. I have my Canon T5i, my kit lens, which I still like to dabble with once and a while. My 50mm 1.8 lives on my camera most of the time and I have a 70-300 zoom lens.Feedback
Use your imagination, think out of the box and be creative. I will get a vision in my head and just go with it. Remember that it is your art and you are the only one that needs to understand it.
