Former Victorian Railways' locomotive R711 was acquired by West Coast Railways and run each Saturday on a Melbourne to Warrnambool return trip, combining tourism with a few regular commuters. Just over a decade after West Coast Railways ceased operations, Steamrail Victoria managed to run a charter train to Warrnambool and back with this same locomotive, on the Westcoaster, as it was originally known.

This shot was taken near Birregurra, after a water stop on the nighttime return run towards Melbourne, utilising twin flashes to capture the spectacle of steam at night.
