This photo was taken at the Giraffe House in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. Most of the animals at Giraffe House form part of a wildlife education program. The giraffe, for instance, is the tallest land animal on earth.Time
This photo was taken on a Sunday afternoon at about 3pm in early autumn. It was Mother's day so my husband and children took me on a fun outing where I could take beautiful photos and enjoy the sunshine.Lighting
It was a beautiful clear day, no wind or clouds to speak of. We are very lucky in Cape Town when there is no wind or clouds, we generally get very blue skies.Equipment
I used my Canon 1300D with 18-55mm kit lens. I was carrying it freehand as we were wandering around the animal sanctuary. No lighting required thanks to the perfect day we had.Inspiration
I love the outdoors, nature and animals. And of course my family - as seen by my picture library. This was a special day as my wonderful family took me out on Mother's day to somewhere that they knew I would love. I had never seen a real giraffe up close, so this was an incredible experience. They are the most remarkably gentle creatures.Editing
I processed the photo in Lightroom with a basic preset for sharpness and cropped the photo in a little. In my camera bag
I have my Canon 1300D with 18-55mm kit lens and my trusty 50mm lens. I don't often carry my tripod. I have a wish list of course, as most photographers and photography enthusiasts do, haha. I think my next lens investment will be a pancake lens or macro. I love taking macro shots of insects, texture and plant life.Feedback
Carry your camera wherever you go, you never know when the perfect shot will present itself. I use my camera as the perfect excuse to get out and about to new and interesting places I've never been before. There is beauty all around us every day, you just have to look, really look.
