Behind The Lens

Location

Took this picture in Thunder Bay, ON. It is right by a busy intersection (John and Memorial) hence the cars and the hydro poles and lines, but I usually get good sunset pictures from here since the sun sets at the top of this hill. I just wish that it was not as busy in this area so that I could stand in the middle of the road and take the picture so that maybe I could avoid the hydro poles.

Time

This was taken May 10, 2018. Rough guess on the time is between 9:30 to 10:30 pm. It was just after the sunset, but still getting really nice color in the clouds. To me it was like the clouds were on fire. I also really liked that I can see each of the branches in the trees, making them stand out even more.

Lighting

Nothing special about the lighting. I had no flash as most of my pictures are sunset pictures

Equipment

I took this picture using my phone. It is a Samsung Galaxy A5. The main reason that I bought the phone was because of the quality of the camera (the salesman thought I was crazy when I was taking pictures and viewing the results to see which one I liked best). It is zoomed in by about 2.5x

Inspiration

As soon as I saw the sky I fell in love with it. Did not want it to change, so the best way to do it was to get pictures of it. I ended up taking over 50 pictures of it (different angles, zooming in and out, etc...). This way I can come back afterwards (ie. night time) and go through and delete the pictures that I do not like (ie. out of focus, do not like the content, etc...)

Editing

No. I do not know what post processing is.

In my camera bag

My phone.

Feedback

Never plan on getting that perfect shot in one shot. Take multiple pictures, different angles....you can always go to your memory card and delete the ones that you do not like. I believe that if you have your camera with you most of the time (if not all of the time), then you can take pictures of things that interest you. If you like sunset pictures (as I do), then try to walk around during the day figuring out where the best picture may be taken from. And then if you like the start of sunset then you can be in an area that you like, sometimes you get your picture, and sometimes you won't, but you know that eventually you will get it. :)
