The Live Launch of the Aston Martin Vantage in LondonTime
16:00 but inside.Lighting
Lighting was incredibly low and it took a fair amount of time as a result to work out the white balance to keep the cars colour. Everything was toplit so the body work retained its defining features really well.Equipment
I was handheld using my Canon 5D Mark IV and a Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art. This was shot during the rehearsal to the launch so Flashes and big Lights where out of the question!Inspiration
This is the new race spec Vantage and the way the light hit the bonnet was really menacing and quite ominous reflecting its Hunter-esq character as a race car.Editing
I did try to emphasise the light hitting the top and almost completely blacked out all surrounding features. The idea was to keep the car as the only focal point of the image with only a section of it revealed. It felt like the car had been exposed for a split second from its hiding spot.In my camera bag
Normally I have my Canon 5D mark IV and my 24-70mm f4 L lens for most photos this lens is incredibly sharp and gives just the right amount of depth of field at f4. I usually have a circular polariser and occasionally a set of 50mm and 35mm primes and my Lensbaby Velvet 56 for fairytale style soft focus or razor sharp detail stopped down.Feedback
It helps having complete control over the cars environment, this time I got very lucky and was able to massively work what I had to my advantage. For a similar shot you would definitely very tall lighting stands or scaffolding to light the car top down.
