I took this photo in Clearwater Florida at pier 60. This is a really great place to shoot interesting people and world-class sunsets. Be patient.Time
The sun was setting and people were gathering to watch it on the pier just to the right.Lighting
I was shooting directly into the light so it would produce a lot of natural silhouettes and shadows.Equipment
I shot this on a sony A7RII with a Sony 24x240 lens.Inspiration
I love capturing beautiful sunsets and this one was a good one. People were gathering to watch it on the pier just to the right and there really wasn't room for another person on the pier so I looked for some other interesting shots.Editing
I processed this in Luminar using more of the HDR type settings. I also added some sun rays, the ones in the natural photo needed just a little enhancement. I used Dodge and Burn in the sky to darken the sky and punch up the clouds a bit.In my camera bag
I generally carry my Sony A7RII everywhere and I also carry a mid format Nikon 7500 and a little Fuji XP for some specialized stuff. I always carry my Sony 24 x 240 and often have a Sony macro and an 80 mm. I also carry a variety of Cokin ND philters and I use two tripods One is a Right stuff TVC-34 Mk2 Tripod the other a TargusTG-MP6710 monopod.Feedback
You should have patience because you don't always get the right light and conditions. I prefer to shot sunsets that have lots of clouds mixed in to reflect beautiful tones of color. I think using a good quality lens is more important than a really expensive camera. The composition is a big deal, always take your time to find the right position, angel, and light. Try to find something interesting or unusual to capture, work on your position don't always stand with the camera in front of your face. I often put the camera on the ground or close to it and sometimes find a high position to shoot from. Be Patient.
