Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in St Kilda Beach Melbourne, Australia.

Time

It was a late afternoon shoot in a mild autumn day. The last ray of suns were just about to disappear on the horizon.

Lighting

Taken with Natural light and no reflection. The raw image was a little under exposed but was easily brightened in post. No reflectors were used as I had no assistant.

Equipment

I used my D800 with a long lens. I think it was around 200mm.

Inspiration

I was doing a folio shoot and we had been hanging around the beach all afternoon shoot at different locations. This was taken at the very end and probably turned out to be my favorites shots

Editing

Yes. Colour grading and skin balancing was the main edit. The model has good skin so nothing was needed in terms of dodge and burn.

In my camera bag

Usually with a natural light and outdoors I will have a long lens and a wider one if I need. Also a large reflector.

Feedback

Go an hour or two before sunset for the magic light. Also helps to have an assistant or someone to hold a reflector if you can!
