Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my backyard in Alabama.

Time

This was just after sunrise one morning. The Eastern Bluebirds had just fledged a few days earlier and this was my first sighting of them since they left the nest. The parents will continue to feed them for a while. Bird watching and bird photography is a passion of mind especially our bluebirds. I'm always on the lookout for them and I was fortunate enough on this morning to catch daddy providing breakfast for this little hungry one.

Lighting

Nothing special about the lighting. I do always try to shoot within the first two hours of sunrise.

Equipment

I use a Canon 7D II with a Canon 100-400 lens. Most of the time I am shooting handheld. Most common settings in manual are auto ISO, f/8, 1/500 sec. When zoomed at 400mm even at f/8 still gives me a nice background.

Inspiration

Nature inspires me. I stand in awe of all of creation.

Editing

I always shoot RAW so post always consist of contrast boost, sharpening, and vibrance. And usually a crop.

In my camera bag

Just camera, lens, batteries and cards.

Feedback

When shooting living creatures one must be patient. I will spend hours sometimes to get the shot and even then the shot may not present itself. Try again.
