Hungary apparently had horrid luck with their foreign kings. Two (brothers) unexpectedly died and within seven years. Besides plagues and treachery, they had foreigner intrusion. The borders and bloodline were highly at risk. As the story goes- Matthias Corvinus the younger brother was sent for by his mother. She sent a raven to Prague with a ring tightly in its beak - apparently from Transylvania!
This fifteen yr old boy was then crowned King of Ravens .The raven with the ring motif became part of the family crest. Corvinus (Corvus) is Latin for Raven.
It definitely makes an awesome, impressive gate. Budapest is easily one of my favorite cities. Both sides are quite beautiful and quite different. Both wonderful, educational and fun! There're excellent views as well. This gate is wonderful. Budapest is beautiful and friendly. Educationally FUN! The Hungarian National Gallery (In a castle!) is a personal favorite. So much to do and see!
I hope I have all proper information. I love Budapest!
