Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken from the living room of an uneven rural shack we were relocated to for work (wind farms) in Glen Innes, NSW, 18 hours from home for the year, we live a completely unpredictable life.

Time

This photo was taken at about 10pm on your average work day evening just as one of New South Wales monster storms rolled in, Netflix was paused, camera was on.

Lighting

The lightening is all the lighting this shot needed.

Equipment

Shot with a Canon EOS 6D, with the 24-105mm L is USM lens. Taken at 24mm, f/8, ISO 500 and an exposure time of 1/20, it was nestled on a windowsill with a strong amount of patience.

Inspiration

We’d only had one previous storm like this the night we’d moved to the area and we were caught in it walking to pick up dinner with the family, how I wished I’d had my camera on me. From the comfort of being under a roof this time, it was asking to be shot!

Editing

The shot was run through Lightroom from a RAW image, it has a slight tone curve adjustment, contrast boost, highlight increase and shadow reduction.

In my camera bag

The trusty 6D, my classic 60D, 24-105mm L is USM lens, 70-200mm f2.8 is II lens, 16-35mm f/4L is USM lens, a video light, always a GoPro and some muscle to carry it all.

Feedback

Keep trying, tweak all the things (you won’t break it!), take notes of your settings if you need, have patience and do yourself a solid favour and learn how to use your camera to its full potential. You won’t regret it!
