Normally you need the sun to shoot infrared outside, especially if you're out in the middle of the woods without an artificial light source.

Well the moon reflects sunlight, and gives infrared light as well (probably brighter than visible light). This was roughly and hour after the sunset and a few minutes after moonrise.
