Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a family holiday in the Isles of Scilly. On St Mary's there is a lovely seating area by a bay with sheltered wooden benches which are tucked away and quiet. It was a real chance photo as I'd put my camera away and was having a little break when the gull turned up.

Time

It was lunch time; I'd sat down for a break and had been told that a local shop made delicious vegetarian pasties so decided to have one for my lunch so put away my camera and settled down to watch the sea and enjoy my pastie when the peace was shattered by an indignant screeching in my ear. The gull was not as confident as his peers (thankfully) and so didn't just take my lunch but screamed at me to share. As he was sitting on the raised back of a bench that was built into a bank he was pretty much at head height which is what enabled me to get this shot.

Lighting

It was bright daylight but I didn't do anything special as it was a quick snap.

Equipment

A bridge camera - no flash, no tripod, I'm not sure what the settings were because I quickly grabbed it out of my bag and took the shot.

Inspiration

The noise!

Editing

No, none at alll.

In my camera bag

My camera and spare batteries and memory cards. Occasionally a raynox macro attachment but obviously not for this photo.

Feedback

Always have your camera close at hand and be ready for when that magical shot just presents itself too you as it's always when you aren't expecting it!
