This photo was taken in a park somewhere in Stavanger, Norway, during a walk with a friend I had come to visit. She was showing me the most beautiful places in her hometown.Time
I think this is probably my favourite picture of all from my day in Stavanger. I took it on March 23, midmorning. At that time of year, the snow has melted, and the climate is mild, but the leaves have not yet appeared.Lighting
A light drizzle was falling, and the clouds provided a natural soft-box for even lighting, with the rain dampness giving extra contrast.Equipment
I just used my Nikon D3100, most likely with my 18-55mm lens. It was just a random snapshot without any tripod or other fancy equipment.Inspiration
Looking at the curve in the path, and the combination of lights and darks, it reminded me of an abstract, modern painting almost. There is a feeling of lonliness, desolation almost in the bare trees. It brought a feeling of solitude. While walking in the nature just awakening from a long winter's nap, I felt happyEditing
I just used photoshop to create the black and white and boost contrast a littleIn my camera bag
I usually have simple equipment because it is easy to travel with, and affordable. I have my Nikon D3100, two lenses, 18-55mm and 55-200 Nikkors, and if it fits in my travel backpack, a tripod that deconstructs into a monopod.Feedback
I recommend going out during the rain to capture a moody image. Cloudy days provide soft, even lighting, and early spring is a great time to capture a monochrome setting.
