Behind The Lens

Location

As a truck driver and part time photographer I am fascinated with road trains. This was taken in North West Queensland.

Time

This pic was taken mid morning.

Lighting

Because road trains are often on dirt roads I always try to shoot into the sun to get as much drama as I can from the dust they create. Evening or morning sun also enhances the colours of the out back. Midday washes the colour out as the natural light is unique.

Equipment

Just a handheld long lense. I am laying I a ditch here so a tripod would be difficult.

Inspiration

I just love the ruggedness of the outback and road trains are not found anywhere else.

Editing

I try to crop in the camera so there was only a small amount of cropping and I adjusted the contrast

In my camera bag

I really only use a long lense with a lot of glass as I like to reduce the depth of field wherever I can

Feedback

Stay low to enhance the size of the subject. ALWAYS shoot into the sun Watch out for deadly snakes when you are running through the countryside trying to get the right angle!!!
