Behind The Lens

Location

Hey ! This is my old bathroom in Villevocance !

Time

By the looks of the guy in the mirror, this photo must have been taken at early morning !

Lighting

This picture is a composite of two HDR shots, using the natural light coming from the white and thick glass window, which smoothes efficiently the light.

Equipment

I was using back then a Canon 5D MK I, mounted on a tripod, with my Zenitar 16mm fisheye, and a remote trigger.

Inspiration

This was the set for one of my long term series : in order to document the weariness of a week's work, I decided to make a self-portrait each morning, first thing after waking up. Along the year, I select random weeks where I continue to document this effect, from monday to sunday, making a portrait of myself at wake up time. When I was living at this place, my tripod was installed in the sink. Then came the idea if this self-portrait.

Editing

This project could not go without post-processing, I haven't got yet a digital sensor stuck on the retina ! I had to take the first shot from the camera above the sink, and the second one from the point where I stand for my morning series, and layer them.

In my camera bag

My bag can be heavy, sometimes, especially with the 200mm Jupiter I like to cary around. But most of the time, it is my 5D MK II with a Sigma 24-70 and a Zenitar 16mm fisheye. I also need an intervallometer, and some headlights : I'm often out at night ...

Feedback

When it comes to the subject of photomanipulation, I think it is necessary to compose mentally the desired image beforehand, in order to have the shots right in the end.
