Any large, hairy spider in the eastern half of the United States is more than likely a wolf spider. These spiders may grow to have bodies 1 inch long with a leg span of 2 or more inches. They are generally black or gray in color, but sometimes reddish, brown or tan. Two of their eight eyes are often larger than the rest.

Wolf spiders are active hunters that search for prey day or night. Some burrow and others rest in silken retreats beneath rocks, logs and vegetation. Females attach their egg sacs to their spinnerets and carry the egg sacs and spiderlings around after they hatch.

As with other large spiders, the bite of a wolf spider is likely to be felt but is not considered dangerous. Bites from these and other large spiders are not common.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the edge of the yard while cleaning. I noticed some movement and my camera is never to far away. I took the opportunity and loved the results.

Time

This was during mid-day the shot was perfect as far as lighting.

Lighting

I want to get as much detail as possible I knew this spider had many eyes and i wanted to draw the viewer into his world.

Equipment

I used a canon EOS rebel T3i. I used a canon zoom lens EF 35-70 MM.

Inspiration

I love taken a chance on animals and insects that scare most people so people can see that it is nothing to it Just give the animal or insect some space. I love living on the edge in photography.

Editing

I just cropped the image to bring in the detail.

In my camera bag

I have many items several different lens you never know what you will need when you are out and about.

Feedback

I say never be without your camera you never know when you will have another opportunity.
