Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a tour of Diamond Head. I’m a self taught hobby photographer. This was my first big trip to somewhere I felt worth photographing.

Time

I believe I took this sometime before noon or a little after.

Lighting

At first I was frustrated that the water reflection was washed out by the sun but as time has went along, I’ve grown fond of it.

Equipment

D3200 handheld with 18-55 kit lens.

Inspiration

I was just floored and speechless of the beauty of Hawaii, coming from the backwoods of Tennessee’s… I couldn’t “not” take a photo if you understand?

Editing

Not much. The original was color and it was taken with auto ISO on by mistake, so there was some noise that was unnecessary, aside from that, I wanted it to be as natural as possible.

In my camera bag

Now a days I take my d7200 with my 17-55 2.8 sigma, 55-300 dx, and 35mm 1.8 with a tripod if need be.

Feedback

Go out and don’t worry about getting everything exactly right. Shoot several shots of the same thing, maybe at different exposures or shutter speeds. Try different things, shoot raw, take some notes on what you did try so you can start making determinations on what did and didn’t work. Last but not least, adobe lightroom is the best imo and worth the money and it always has the best. Always upgrading the others and missing out on features isn’t as much of a savings as it sounds when you couple the frustrations of using lesser quality software/tools.
