Location
Any visit to the Canadian Rockies must include a stop at Lake Louise in Banff. I had been there before, and had taken photos of the beautiful turquois lake with the snow-capped mountains in the background. On this particular occasion, I was admiring the colorful flowers in bloom, adjacent to the impressive hotel on the lake. I decided to try to capture both ingredients in a single photo, and was delighted that I could position myself at a low angle, and include the flowers in the foreground, with the lake and the mountains behind.Time
The afternoon sun provided brilliance to the entire scene.Lighting
At first, I thought I would use a flash to enhance the flowers; however, I discovered that the natural lighting was quite sufficient for this shot. I suppose it was "the right place at the right time".Equipment
Camera and lens only.Inspiration
It was the flowers outside of the hotel that inspired me to take this photo of the snow-capped mountains and Lake Louise. The contrast of spring and the snow remaining from Winter provided an exciting combination.Editing
No post-processing involved with this shot.In my camera bag
Typically, I like to travel "light" with only my camera, one extra long lens, and the attached flash. Sometimes, I do wish I had my tripodFeedback
I recommend trying to combine elements that offer visual variety. Oftentimes, it means getting "down and dirty" with a low camera angle.
