Behind The Lens

Location

In my home in a small suburban town near Toronto Ontario. Was relaxing on a weekend when I didn't have class and was with friends

Time

Taken around 7 pm on a Saturday evening. When I have a free house, I like to invite friends over and cook dinner and Relax.

Lighting

The way my Kitchen is set up We had all the food we were prepping right underneath one Pot light. I also used a low F stop of 2.8 so that we could let more light into the sensor

Equipment

I shot this with a Canon T5 and used a EF 40mm F2.8 as the lens.

Inspiration

I usually don't get help in the Kitchen when I cook but my friend Ryan Loves cooking and decided to help out. We were making a Pasta casserole dish where you finish the dish off in the oven and have the top completely covered in a layer of soft gooey cheese. While we Ryan was finishing off the final prep stage with covering the casserole in cheese, I decided to take a photo of the cheese being grated to see if I could get a neat shot.

Editing

I did a bit to focus your eyes more towards the falling cheese from the grater. I liked how some of the strands were in focus and the rest weren't as well as the cheese itself. It puts more focus on what is actually happening in my opinion

In my camera bag

My Go to equipment besides my camera My 50mm. I use it for pretty much everything when it comes to portraits and product shots. I also carry a 40mm, 20-80mm and my sigma 12-24mm what seems like all times. I like taking shots with the 12-24 since it allows me to shoot at a wider angle and I can get more in the shot.

Feedback

If your shooting inside, Make sure you have good light. If you don't make sure that you can manipulate light around your subject with reflectors or a portable light itself. If your working with others, make sure that they are as patient as you are. Especially if you are working with food. In the case of this photo it was also what everyone was going to eat so it can be a bit harder for people to be patient when they know they are going to eat the thing your shooting.
