Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in the house were I lived in my childhood, wich now is abandoned.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon when the sun was starting to go down.

Lighting

In this scene the only kind of illumination that I pretended was that that window, I had to wait until the sun was in the right position to illuminate that way. Being the door window the only light source intensifies the "dramatic" felling and mystery.

Equipment

To take this picture I used an Yashhica 300 AF with a 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 Kyocera Yashica Lens, an Ilford HP5+ 400 film and a tripod.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this photograph was the music "Keep Talking" from Pink Floyd, this photograph belongs to a academic work that I did recently that consistes in our subconscious, someone who can't express himself, who is "arrested", "lost", "broken", "empty".

Editing

I developed the film myself and then I digitalized it, what I did was some light "touches" such as contrast, highlights, shadows, white, blacks, clarity and exposure.

In my camera bag

Normally on my bag I have a camera, two lens, one zoom and other wide angle, a flash and an extra battery.

Feedback

Different kinds of illumination gives different readings and meanings to an image, to give this "dark" feeling to an image I think that the most important thing is the illumination, you can try to "hide" the sources of illumination behind objects giving them a clipping light, and underexposing is also important to achieve to a "mysterious" atmosphere.
