Location
This photo was taken while on a days trout fishing on a private lake in County Donegal, Republic of Ireland. It was taken on 28 March 2016. A good friend offered myseld and another fishing mate a free days fishing. It was possibly my first time trout fishing on a lough from a boat.Time
About mid-day we stopped on the shore of the lough for a bite of lunch It was then I took this shot.Lighting
Natural light around mid-day. The lough holds a good head of small to medium sized wild brown trout from 6 to 16oz. Great sport on a small 7 or 8ft 4 weight fly rod.Equipment
The photo was taken on a small pocket size Canon PowerShot A560 camera.Inspiration
The photo was taken as part of a series of photos taken that day. I regulary shoot video and photos during my fishing activities, typically salmon, fly, sea shore and charter boat and pike. I also like walking, the local countryside, incuding hills and costal walking.Editing
Yes, I've used Lightroom to slightly enhance the image and possibly straighten the horizon. I'm not keen on over working my photos. I prefer to keep them as natural as possible. In my camera bag
Later I progressed from the Cannon PowerShot A560 to a Nikon D5600 fitted with an Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II. I normally carry a tripod, an automatic shutter release, a powered panoramic head, a small Hawkeye Fire Fly 8S sports camera and some circular ND and polarizing filters.Feedback
Keep your camera at hand. Now that we have a digital format, take numerious shots of anything you fancy. take shots of unusual subject matter, from various angles (down-low, up-high), think about the composition. Take shots in unusual light conditions as these shots sometimes produce the most surprising results and can be quite unique. Challenge yourtself, by trying new techniques, low light, long exposure etc.
