It is really hard to catch the square empty even at night. And even cold isn’t helping to keep people away. Yet if you wait long enough or are fortunate enough you will be able to take a shot you desire.

Beautiful night shot. I might have cropped it a little more tightly at the bottom to get past the out of focus stones, but this low point of view for the shot is wonderful. Doing the cropping wouldn't detract from the perspective you are trying for. In any event, wonderful image!

These out of focus stones were what I was going for actually, to make a perspective that runs into the building. Looking at the picture now what I would've done is leave a little more space at the top so that the building didn't kind of abut with the frame. Anyways, thank you for the comment! (:

I took this picture in my city - Moscow. This is one of the busiest and most popular places among the tourists, Red Square, and the shop featured is GUM. This particular shot was taken somewhere in late autumn or winter, when it was rather cold outside for lazy strolls but even that didn't keep eager people at homes.Time
It was late evening, closer to night I think, because there are almost no people in the shot.Lighting
The lighting was very ordinary - just what you get in a busy tourist-y place. Red Square is the centre of the city so it is always well lit. One thing I did though - I went for reflections, and to capture the light reflected on the wet square stones I had to shoot from a very low angle.Equipment
I used my go-to kit: Sony a7R mark I and SEL 24-70 f/4. I placed the camera on the ground and tilted it to get the right view.Inspiration
When I was entering the square I noticed the lighting of the shop, then spotted reflexes and thought it would be just awesome to save that moment not only in my memory but as something I can go back to and relive.Editing
I did some basic post-processing work: enhancing the lights while keeping them from turning into white spaces, lightened the shadows a bit to bring back some of the details, added a bit of clarity to make the image pop, and that was basically it.In my camera bag
I always bring my Sony a7R mark I camera and a couple of lenses - SEL 24-70 f/4 and Helios M44-4 f/2.8. Just in case I also have some macro rings, a flash and some filters. Spare batteries are a must as well as a power bank to charge the camera if needed.Feedback
All my shots come from two places - curiosity and observation, so I can only advise you to observe what you see and let yourself be in the moment, stop for a second and think about what you see. And it is also good to be curious because when you try different approaches, lenses, angles, lighting, etc., you can find something really unique.
