Location
This is St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Ammansville, Tx - which is considered a ghost town with the painted Church. It opened in 1890, was destroyed by a hurricane in 1909, and rebuilt, but burned shortly thereafter, and was rebuilt again. There are many painted churches throughout Texas, but 4 of them are near the town of Shulenberg. I have been working on a book of historic churches and graveyards of Texas when I was invited by a local church to go with them on a tour of the 4 painted churches in this area.Time
This image was taken about 10:30 a.m.Lighting
The clouds were rolling in against the blue sky and the colors of the day were very memorable - blue sky, clouds, super green grass and a few flowers in the nearby yard. The graveyard across the street is very memorable and will be in pictures coming out in the future.Equipment
I do not have a camera at this time, so I used my cell phone - an LG G5 with a 16 mp camera, outfitted with a storage card. Normally I use a digital and film cameras to record moments such as these.Inspiration
Since I have been working on old churches and graveyards, this picture just happened. Everything came together for this picture - the people on the tour, the sky, the colors, the church itself. The inside is amazing - all hand painted.Editing
I utilized PhotoDirector for editing and completed everything that you see in this photo on the cell phone. I love the brown direction giving it an old time antique look, upped the HDR on it, added a touch of color back into it, and the result is what you see here. I do have Photoshop on my PC, but in this instance decided not to utilize it.In my camera bag
When I have a camera with me, that is in my bag as well as a tripod, a few filters, a flash, a bounce umbrella, etc.Feedback
Before I took this photo, I walked around the outside of the church, looking for several angles to shoot from, took notice of the cars parked nearby, the old-time outhouses in the back of the church, which could go in a shot all by themselves, etc. Then once I found the angle and the clouds where I wanted them in the shot I took several shots and out of 6 shots, this is the result.
