Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Pointe Des Cascades. Until 1958 it was the only way to get to the Great Lakes. A series of locks transported you past the multiple rapids on the saint Lawrence river. Now these sluices channel the water into the old locks.

Time

I went down to this lock at 11 on a cloudy day. I knew I wanted to do a time exposure and would have to push it in order to get good results.

Lighting

I set the aperture to its smallest setting, hoping to stretch the shutter speed and not overlight the final product. The camera was propped on the railing.

Equipment

Canon t3 . 18- 55 lens.

Inspiration

This is a beautiful area that is not controlled by any provincial parks or governments. It was the first canal into the heartland of America. It deserves to be remembered..

Editing

just a standard despeckle and contrast tweak. The time exposure photo during daylight hours always pushes the limits of the light..

In my camera bag

I have a 18-55, 70-210, 70-300 (with a 2x converter) an aspherical 28-200 and a wide angle add on to a 18-55.

Feedback

Experiment with your camera in all light conditions. Use the specialty settings in order to get familiar with them, but definitely concentrate with your manual settings. You can get a lot of interesting shots that pre-settings wouldn't allow you to do.
