Pointe aux Cascades. This is the original canal lock that led ships up onto the great lakes. It was closed down after the Saint Lawrence seaway was open. Beautiful area that is falling apart.

Location
This photo was taken at Pointe Des Cascades. Until 1958 it was the only way to get to the Great Lakes. A series of locks transported you past the multiple rapids on the saint Lawrence river. Now these sluices channel the water into the old locks.Time
I went down to this lock at 11 on a cloudy day. I knew I wanted to do a time exposure and would have to push it in order to get good results.Lighting
I set the aperture to its smallest setting, hoping to stretch the shutter speed and not overlight the final product. The camera was propped on the railing.Equipment
Canon t3 . 18- 55 lens.Inspiration
This is a beautiful area that is not controlled by any provincial parks or governments. It was the first canal into the heartland of America. It deserves to be remembered..Editing
just a standard despeckle and contrast tweak. The time exposure photo during daylight hours always pushes the limits of the light..In my camera bag
I have a 18-55, 70-210, 70-300 (with a 2x converter) an aspherical 28-200 and a wide angle add on to a 18-55.Feedback
Experiment with your camera in all light conditions. Use the specialty settings in order to get familiar with them, but definitely concentrate with your manual settings. You can get a lot of interesting shots that pre-settings wouldn't allow you to do.
