This photo was taken in Atlantic Beach North Carolina, just over the intercoastal waterway from where I live. I am by no means a "professional" photographer, but I LOVE taking pictures and it seems I have had a camera to my eye most of my life. I am still learning and gaining knowledge from all the photographers on ViewBug.Time
I usually try to get to the beach about an hour before sunset. I love watching the colors of the sky and clouds change by the minute.Lighting
No special lighting was used. I was on full auto, so I just point and shoot and see what I get!Equipment
I was shooting with a Canon EOS Rebel T5i with the 18-55mm lens. This is my standard camera, I take it everywhere! I rarely use a tripod as I like the fluidity of shooting when I feel the "moment"!Inspiration
When the colors of the sky began to turn purple, I knew this was going to be an outstanding opportunity to get a beautiful shot. All I needed was for the cloud bank to hold it's rise and for the people and animals on the beach to clear a path. I was walking with my partner, my back was to the pier, I had just taken a shot of the cloud reflections in the Eastern sky, when I turned an saw this!! I gasped in awe at my good fortune, not a sole in sight, except on the pier. The sun just setting behind the cloud bank, a purple and pink sky with orange highlights and a perfect reflection greeted me as I turned around!! WOWZER.....is exactly what I said out loud and then took many shots!!Editing
The only post processing I ever do is to crop if needed (this picture didn't need it), straighten my horizon line if needed, and punch up the color if needed. In this case, this photo was nearly perfect out of the camera. When I saw it on screen, I nearly cried with delight at my capture!!In my camera bag
I guess I'm still an amatuer as I usually do not take anything but my camera. Unless I'm doing a photo shoot for a wedding, or family shots, I only carry my camera.Feedback
Living here, near the beach, I get to see some really fantastic sunsets and sunrises. Beautiful beach and water shots too! When there are clouds in the sky, the colors are usually more brilliant. My advice is to shoot whatever you see that touches your soul.
