Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was the first ever long exposure photo I had tried to take, it took me a while to work it out but was so happy with this one. It’s location is just behind the arts and entertainment centre in Surfers Paradise, where if you walk far enough around you can find this spot that showcases the Surfers skyline. It’s just stunning and because the water is fairly calm it makes for great reflections!

Time

This was taken just after sunset! When the water traffic had calmed and the building lights had all come on.

Lighting

It was a clear night which helped with the nice blue sky.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3400 and at this time didn’t have a tripod so I just sat my camera on the ground and put a small wallet under it to kept it still!

Inspiration

I had seen a couple of other photographers in the area take this type of shot and I really wanted to work out how to do it! So off I went to try and see if I could!

Editing

Only post processing I did on this image was very small I really just used the Instagram editing options which mostly for memory were making it a little less bright and bringing the buildings more into contrast but otherswise not much at all.

In my camera bag

At the moment all I have is my camera and I just brought myself a tripod!

Feedback

Be patient, go early and play around with the settings before hand to work out what you want to achieve and then just keep snapping as many on different settings as you can to capture the photo. I am still learning how to use my camera, so it’s a daily learning thing for me!
