My best guess is that this Blue-gray Gnatcatcher is sitting on the branch of a Waterlocust tree as it was on the bank of the river. This was a revelatory photo to me in that I started to understand what a variety of birds are doing in trees: not just sitting but putting themselves in the flyby zone of their favorite insects and snatching them. I watched other birds, a Cedar Waxwing for example, doing similar positioning, though a different technique.
