Location
This photo was taken deep in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in Washington state.Time
This was a later photo. We’d been up since 7am to apply makeup and costumes. If I remember correctly this was taken around 1030am.Lighting
Lighting is all natural. When you’re shooting deep in the woods next to a river, power is he’s to come by. Luckily, it was just the right amount cloudy mixed with a few sun spots.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon T5 using a 70-300mm telephoto lens. I was also using a monopod.Inspiration
I love Vikings and their history. I was given the opportunity to me apart of this shoot. As a new photographer it was my first real test. Two years later it’s still my favorite shoot.Editing
Very little. I usually clean up shadows, fix exposure, etc. Then I color grade to give it more of the “Folksy” feel.In my camera bag
Nowadays, I keep a LUMIX G7 with a 35mm Cine Lens, and my Canon T5 with a 24mm and 50mm. Also keep extra batteries, mics, and camera lights.Feedback
My advise to others is to find your spot. If you want to really utilize nature around you when shooting with subjects, really find that. For a picture like this you have to find your style, and ask yourself “what story am I telling with this?”
