Location
The photo was taken in my studio in Milano. I started taking maternity portraits one year ago and I fell in love with it from the first photoshoot. I loved it so much that I decided to make it my main genre and I focused my brand and my business exclusively on it ever since.Time
It was afternoon, but it didn't matter because we blacked out the studio and used only strobes to achieve this image.Lighting
I chose to create a butterfly lighting using one profoto B1 diffused with an octabank and placed above and directly behind the camera.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D750, using a Nikon 24-70mm lens. I used one Profoto B1 with an octabank right to create a beautiful butterfly lighting. The backdrop is a thunder grey seamless.Inspiration
I get inspired by the work of the great masters of photography. I have a photography book collection in my studio (Patrick Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz, Vincent Peters, Avedon, Irving Penn just to name a few) and I spend hours going through their images, studying details and getting inspired by their amazing work.Editing
I converted the photo in black and white of course, I perfected the skin and the body features, then added some body contour. In my camera bag
I normally shoot in my studio so I don't have to pack my gear in a bag to bring with me, but what I use the most are my Nikon D750, my Nikon 24-70mm f 2.8 and Nikon 85mm f 1.8 As for lighting I always use my two Profoto B1, diffused by the Profoto xl silver umbrella and the Profoto rfi 5' octaFeedback
This portrait is all about good lighting and connection with the subject. Look for a lighting that enhances the features of your model, keep it simple and clean, create a good eye connection by talking and guiding your model through the process.
