Location
My daughter and I were on our way back from Broadwater, NSW. We decided to visit the Bundjalung National Park. A dirt track takes you to the start of the Gummigurrah Track, which is at present closed as there is no bridge access over the Evans River. We took a few photos then headed home. On our way out I noticed these interesting fungi.Time
This was taken about 1:30pm.Lighting
Harsh overhead light didn't really cause a problem as the fungi were in a shaded bush area. I increased the ISO from my usual 100. ISO 200, f 2.0, 1/400.Equipment
I have a Pentax K-1 which I love. I didn't use a tripod or flash. The lens I had that day was my 50mm prime (Pentax DA 50 mm 1.8)Inspiration
I'm a self-taught amateur, and I love to takes photos of just about anything, but especially nature. Fungi are so varied and interesting and these just jumped out at me. I favour shallow depth of field photos, with a large aperture. So there was me, on all fours in the bush litter, bum up, taking this photo.Editing
I always shoot in RAW so yes I do post-process my photos. I use Lightroom mainly, sometimes Luminar. I find I don't need to change the White Balance, I just do a lens correction, and adjust the tone, clarity and dehaze. In my camera bag
I have 2 Lowepro camera bags, one can store all my gear, but is too big for me, so I usually use the Transit Sling bag. What's in there depends on what I hope to photograph on any particular day, but I usually take my 50mm prime, because it's so tiny it fits anywhere, my macro lens, and my 70-300 zoom lens. I might also take my wide-angle. Of course I always have spare batteries, camera cards, and cleaning items. I rarely use filters. My Vanguard tripod is always in the car.Feedback
Fungi don't move, so there's no need to rush to take their photo, not that you would know that by the way I quickly reversed the car and parked when I saw these. Don't be afraid to get down low, and move around to see which is the best angle.
