Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in my home back in California. I was so excited at the time to take this photo because I was starting to incorporate objects and props into my portraits.

Time

I would say this photo was taken around mid-afternoon. I always use to like shooting around this time indoors or near sunset.

Lighting

During the time I was taking photos like these, I was just learning the importance of natural lighting. I fell in love with placing my subjects near a natural light source that highlights natural beauty.

Equipment

I believe I was using my Nikon D5200 camera with a 35 mm lens.

Inspiration

I’ve always found interest in portraits and the stories you can portray or create through them. With this photo, I felt I could experiment more with this interest and see what story I can capture next.

Editing

As this was taken when I was getting more familiar with my lens and portrait photography, I didn’t know much about editing. Now, I know a little more, but I always prefer to leave the photo as is.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon D5200 camera on hand with my 35 mm lens, but I have an entire collection of old film cameras at home that I love messing around with and learning from.

Feedback

I always say that you do not need any fancy equipment to capture something beautiful or interesting. Before I bought my first camera and took photography more seriously, I believed you had to have the right camera, the right lens, or be perfect at taking photos. I learned along the way through many cheap cameras and makeshift lighting set ups that I was wrong. I actually love learning new things about the art of photography and working with what I have to create or capture the beauty I see everyday.
