We had gone for a short walk through some bush near Havelock (in the north of South Island New Zealand) and part way through the walk we came across a group of quail. There seemed to be a large family group of various ages including tiny chicks. We waited for them to scurry away from us and then continued our walk. As we rounded a corner a wee male was standing on the track directly in front of us...and clearly had no intention of moving!! Anyway, after a while the male quail seemed to get bored and wandered off into the bush. But then we noticed there was a female sitting in the tree above us, watching us equally intently. It didn't take very long before she too became bored. She fluttered down from her perch and wandered off so we continued on our way. After only a few paces we came across this gorgeous scene with an adult male sitting alongside a juvenile
